I am terrible at growing carrots, but Royal Chantenay survives anyway. Short and fat with very strong tops for easy pulling, Chantenay is sweet and crunchy. Only about 6” long and 2.5" across at the top, they are great for stiff soil You can grow a lot in a small space, and they store for months. When it comes to chopping some up for juice or stews their larger size makes it quick. Getting sweeter after a light frost, they are delicious chopped and roasted in the oven. Still my standard variety after many years.
