There are very few non-hybrid sweet corn varieties available today, and this has been a very reliable favorite of mine for 18 years. Developed by Fred Ashworth in the 1970’s, Ashworth has remained a favorite at only 75 days to maturity! Nicely sweet kernels have more great delicious corn flavor than hybrids. Cobs are about 7” long. I really like the short plants- only about 5 feet tall, so Ashworth never leans or falls over from wind. I have tried many varieties of non-hybrid sweet corn and Ashworth is still a winner! Check frequently when close to maturity, or it will pass through the ‘milk’ stage pretty quickly.
