- Arugula, Rocket
A peppery aromatic green, popular and excellent in mesclun salad mixes, Arugula is the easiest thing to grow. It will actually self-seed and naturalize on the edges of your garden if you let it, without becoming invasive. I love Arugula in salad, wilted or steamed on steak or salmon, especially good on burgers and sandwiches. Grows best in spring and fall, when the beautiful rosettes of leaves are large and tender. In the height of summer it will send upi a flower stalk. The leaves are still great, and the white flowers are sweet and peppery. Add them in to the pickings! Just sprinkle the seeds early in the spring so they get a lot of rain, and watch it grow like crazy!
