Red Russian has been around since the 1860’s, and is now getting some new lovers. Lovely, tender, very nutritious flat-leaved kale, dark green with red veins. Without all the curliness, its very easy to clean. More tender than other kale, with ragged edges to the leaves. Red Russian is wonderful starting as a baby cut green all the way up to full size at 24” tall. Cold tolerant and will not mind the heat of summer so long as it has enough water. I have been growing Red Russian for a very long time. Look for posts of Kale recipes throughout the summer!
